Public Works

The Department Public Works (DPW) mission is to ensure Village residents receive quality services and have access to safe, well-maintained recreational areas.  Additionally the department strives not only to maintain the Village infrastructure, but to implement long-term improvements aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the community.

Recreation:  Public Works maintains five parks covering over ninety areas.  This includes lawn care, landscaping, maintaining the amenities, parking and lighting.  The department manages a tree replacement program continually removing dead trees and replacing them with a variety of new trees and shrubs.  The Department of Public Works has partnered with the Friends of the Pulaski Park District, to ensure athletic fields; utilities and park equipment are maintained, available and accessible for organized activities.  The Village parks currently encompass not only playground equipment and various athletic fields, but also a recreational fishing pond and cross country and walking trails that are integrated into the Mountain Bay Trail System.

Streets and sidewalks:  The DPW maintains over 19 miles of streets within the Village limits.  This includes street sweeping, snow removal, and winter salting.  The DPW has developed a comprehensive road program aimed at improving the quality of local streets.   A major component of this program is a long-term plan for continuous improvement and redevelopment of deteriorating roads. The DPW also maintains all sidewalks on Village property, plowing and salting during the winter and replacing walkways that do not meet insurance standards.  Street lighting in the Village is maintained through a collaborative effort with the Wisconsin Public Service and WE Energies

Compost/Waste Removal Services: The Department of Public Works maintains a compost site open to all village residents.  Residents can drop off yard waste at the site, or leave it curbside where it is picked up by DPW workers.  The compost site, located at the northeast side of the village regularly has compost, wood chips and black dirt available free-of-charge for village residents only.  For additional information on this benefit please call 822 5192.

Garbage Pickup and Recycling:  Both these services are contracted to an outside vendor.  Curbside garbage pickup is every Monday.  Single-source recycling is every other Monday. The Village of Pulaski is contracted with Harter Fox Valley Disposal to provide garbage and recycling collection in the Village.  Recycling collection is every other Monday and garbage collection is every Monday.  Please put all trash in the cart provided, and all recyclables in the bin provided.  Have the trash and recycling at the curb by 6:00 AM.  Leave a 4-foot space between the trash cart and recycle bin.

Equipment Maintenance: The DPW maintains various heavy-duty equipment utilized by the Pulaski Water Department and Department of Public Works to provide the services within the Village.

Miscellaneous Department Responsibilities: Additionally the Department of Public Works assists the Water Utility Department with water break repairs and weekend duty which provides twenty-four hour coverage for sewer and water issues. Seasonal decorating, support services for Farmers’ Market events, working closely with the Pulaski Polka Days Committee and support for various school activity requests are a few of the community activities supported by the Department of Public Works.
